I Got to Appraise a Coin Collection

My boss has a couple of boxes of coins that were his dads (who passed away) and he needed to know how to divide them up between himself and his siblings, but he doesn't know anything about coins but since I do  , I offered to appraise his collection for him, free of charge.

I got to look through a couple of boxes, and unfortunately 90% of the collection was clad mint sets, many from the 70's and early 80's. Very little silver, and only two gold coins in the whole set (a $20 st gaudens and a $5 indian head - he still had the receipts for those, and they paid more in the early 80's for those coins than they are worth even today!!! :shocked_ma:). I used the newest Red Book and created an excel spreadsheet for him, showing the values per the book. Nothing exceptional at all, no rare dates or anything, even the silver isn't worth significantly more than bullion value.

To thank me, he offered me a pick out of the collection not to exceed $40 per the book, so I claimed a proof 1986 ASE in original mint packaging! :565:

I also told him that if he, or his siblings wish to sell their collection, to let me know first. :ok:
